The Ecokathedraal is a fascinating project that we recently discovered - thanks to Denis Dujardin.
The eco cathedral is constructed entirely by hand by Dutch artist Louis Le Roy. The cathedral is constructed from residual stone and paving slabs that the municipality wasn’t using. Le Roy began to accumulate this material in 1983 on his 3 acre site in Mildem, and has done all of the work by hand without the use of cement. In one of the videos posted below he mentions that it is milimetre perfect and it is a true labour of love. The aim of the project is “to develop high complex structures in cooperation between natural and creative-human processes” and one day, once finished it will return to nature.
